Day 7 - August 2 | The eclipse of the century

Today, the sun over Saudi Arabia turns into a cosmic stage as the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century takes place here. As the moon's shadow slowly slides across the desert landscape, the world stills: the temperature drops, the horizon lights up in soft twilight and stars appear in the middle of the day. For over six minutes, a rarity that occurs only once in many generations, you are face to face with the sun's corona, an ethereal halo of light that normally remains hidden. Saudi Arabia is one of the most beautiful places in the world to witness this extraordinary natural wonder.

The eclipse will be observed south of Jeddah. The exact location will be determined on Aug. 1, based on the most favorable weather conditions at that time. The area south of Jeddah lies exactly on the central line, offers the longest duration of totality and also has very favorable weather statistics.
