Air Arabia (UAE) is part of an alliance that has been granted the rights to launch a new low-cost airline in Saudi Arabia to improve air connectivity in the kingdom. The consortium—comprising Air Arabia, Egypt's Nesma, and Jeddah-based Kun Investments Holding—will operate from King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and offer affordable flights, according to a statement issued by the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) on X.
By 2030, the new airline will have 45 aircraft, serve 24 domestic and 57 international destinations, carry 10 million passengers annually and create 2,400 direct jobs.
"This new airline strengthens Saudi Arabia's position as the world's fastest growing aviation market," said Transportation Minister Saleh Al Jasser. "This fits within Vision 2030 and the National Transport and Logistics Strategy."
The tender also drew interest from other airlines, such as Kuwait's Jazeera Airways, which had previously submitted a bid.
With this initiative, Saudi Arabia aims to increase airline competition, expand travel opportunities and stimulate economic growth in the eastern region.

Future developments include expanding the airport's operational capacity, with an increase in aircraft movements to 77 per hour and an increase in annual passenger capacity to 32 million.
