Musandam – Oman

Musandam, Oman

Musandam is one of the most beautiful yet least-visited regions of Oman, completely cut off from the mainland by the surrounding United Arab Emirates. The peninsula juts out into the Strait of Hormuz like a crooked finger and is known for its spectacular fjords, similar to those in Norway. You can enjoy the dramatic coastline, the clear waters, and the rugged mountains, dotted with small villages and towns like Khasab, where traditional white houses and small forts dot the landscape. A visit to Khasab Castle, a 17th-century fortress with an interesting museum on local history, is highly recommended.

Musandam offers a blend of nature and adventure. Its highest peak, Jebel el Harim, offers breathtaking views and is a popular spot for hiking and mountain biking. A dhow cruise along the coast lets you explore the fjords from the water, with stops at islands, swimming spots, and often a barbecue on board. Khawr Njad is one of the region’s most beautiful fjords, where bright blue water winds its way through rugged rocky landscapes and offers spectacular viewpoints for unforgettable photos. Musandam combines tranquility, adventure, and natural beauty, making it a top destination during a tour of Oman.
