Wadi Bani Khalid – Oman

Wadi Bani Khalid, Oman

Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman’s most beautiful wadis, is known for its towering mountains, colorful rock formations, and crystal-clear pools. Located 200 km south of Muscat and near the city of Sur, water flows here year-round. The wadi offers plenty of opportunities for hiking, climbing, and exploring the surrounding area. The pools are lined with lush palm trees and surrounded by rocky valleys, while the steep slopes are a magnet for climbers and adventurous hikers. From the parking lot, it’s about a ten-minute walk to the main pool, but those who venture further into the narrow valley will discover secluded and tranquil water landscapes with breathtaking contrasts of turquoise and deep green water against the colorful rocks.

Swimming and other activities in Wadi Bani Khalid make a visit here truly special. You can swim in the large pool or hike further into the valley to find more secluded spots. You’re allowed to jump into the water from the bridge at the entrance to the gorge, but jumping from the rocks is prohibited. For women, it is recommended to wear a shirt and shorts over your swimwear, as bikinis are not appreciated here. Around the main pool, you’ll find amenities such as a restaurant, where you can enjoy local buffets featuring fresh hummus, salads, and spicy curries. Wadi Bani Khalid combines nature, adventure, and relaxation and is one of the most photogenic, accessible, and most beautiful wadis in Oman.
