Muscat – Oman

Muscat, Oman

The old city center of Muscat is a walled city with a natural harbor, guarded by the twin forts of Jalali and Mirani, where the sultan has his palace. Near the harbor lies the historic commercial district of Muttrah, stretching along the wide bay, with its famous old souq and fish market. The traditional houses in Old Muscat feature ornate balconies, a clear indication of Portuguese influence in the region, and offer a vivid glimpse into the city’s rich history.

Modern Muscat is centered around Qurm, a largely residential area that is home to most of the city’s hotels and amenities. The Oman Dive Center is centrally located on the shores of Qurum Natural Park, featuring a long sandy beach where you can enjoy the sun and sea. Between Qurm and Seeb Airport lies a wide strip of residential neighborhoods, including the impressive Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, an architectural masterpiece that combines traditional Arabic and Persian influences with modern elements. Muscat thus offers a perfect blend of historic charm, modern architecture, and natural beauty.

Also worth a visit is the Royal Opera House in Muscat, built in 2001 by Sultan Qaboos out of his love for classical music. It is an architectural masterpiece that you can admire from the outside or explore during a guided tour or performance.

Wahiba Sands is visited during the Saudi Arabia and Oman Tour, as well as during the 9-day Oman Highlights Tour .
