Banyan Tree has opened its first accommodation in AlUla, the group's first in the kingdom. Inspired by the nomadic nature of Nabatese architecture, the all-villa tented resort embodies Banyan Tree's commitment to local influence. The resort's fundamental principles are designed around three concepts that allow guests to immerse themselves in the resort and the destination; in-villa, in-the-valley and on-trip. Banyan Tree AlUla features 79 opulent villas, three tongue-in-cheek gourmet options and an array of wellness experiences such as a luxurious private spa, yoga classes and a fitness studio. Banyan Tree Alula is a unique retreat located in a cultural oasis.
Hidden among the palms of a millennia-old oasis in the Ashar Valley are the 96 villas of Habitas AlUla. Ancient tribes like the Nabataeans already knew how to find the desert canyons where this five-star resort is built. The stress of everyday life don't stand a chance. As soon as you step inside the lobby that looks like a khaima, the traditional tent of the Bedouins, you come to rest amid Sadu carpets, Arabic coffee and fresh dates. Habitas' themes that you will see reflected in everything are: music, wellness, adventure, culture, learning and culinary.
Dar Tantora The House is an upscale eco-lodge launched by The House Hotel in the historic old town of AlUla. The hotel is already open and features 30 rooms. The hotel is the first and only accommodation built directly from the more than 800-year-old mud houses that were once a crucial stop along the incense trade route in the Arabian Peninsula.
The hotel was designed by Egyptian architect Shahira Fahmy. The doors are heavy and made from wood, antique old-style carpets and traditional pottery are everywhere, while the rooms, corridors and common areas are lit by 1,738 candles (only the bathrooms have electricity). A pool, spa, cigar lounge and two restaurants - Joontos serves regional Saudi cuisine in an upscale courtyard, while Maqha is a more relaxed cafe - make this a comfortable place to stay. But the underlying idea of Dar Tantora is to truly experience the history of the region: the hotel offers traditional Bedouin experiences such as ancient bread baking, coffee ceremonies, storytelling sessions and timeless beauty treatments with healing Saudi oils and balms. The fusion of heritage and contemporary comforts guarantees a truly unique and unforgettable experience in the vibrant old town.
Time Magazine has named Dar Tantora one of the 'best places in the world'.
