Saudi Arabia launches the Murabba project

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia has announced the construction of the New Murabba that will transform downtown Riyadh by building a unique living, working and entertainment environment.

The New Murabba will be built with sustainability in mind, with green areas and walking and biking trails that will improve the quality of life by promoting healthy lifestyles and community activities.

Location

The development will take place at the intersection of King Salman and King Khalid Road in northwestern Riyadh in an area of 19 square kilometers and will eventually provide housing for 400,000 people. Murabba is located a 20-minute drive from Riyadh's airport.

Offer

Murabba will offer more than 25 million square feet of floor space, 104,000 residential units, 9,000 hotel rooms, 980,000 square feet of retail space, 1.4 million square feet of office space, 620,000 square feet of leisure facilities and 1.8 million square feet of community facilities.

The project includes an iconic museum, a technical university, a multipurpose immersive theater and more than 80 entertainment and cultural venues, among others.

On foot you can reach any place in Murabba within 15 minutes as it also has its own transportation system.

The Mukaab

The area will house the Mukaab, an iconic building equipped with the latest innovative technologies, and it will be one of the largest structures in the world: 400 meters high, 400 meters wide and 400 meters long in a cube shape to ensure maximum use of the building.

Inspired by modern Najdi architecture, the Mukaab will be the world's first immersive destination offering an experience created by digital and virtual technology with the latest holographic techniques.

The building will consist of a tower on a spiral base the size of the Eiffel Tower. The total area covers 2 million square meters that will be filled by first-class hospitality venues and a multitude of stores, cultural and tourist attractions, along with residences and hotels, commercial spaces and recreational facilities.

The underground section will also be huge. The stores under and around the Mukaab will be as big as the Dubai Mall and can be expanded even further.

Economy

The project is part of the public investment fund's strategy to diversify the revenue sources of Saudi Arabia.. The project is expected to add about $50 billion to the non-oil economy by 2030 and create 334,000 direct and indirect jobs. The project should be completed by 2030.
